Several of the Institute’s scientists are of international repute B in their fields. B The Institute is financed jointly ,by the New Zealand meat industry, B the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, and the New Zealand B Government, and provides research support to an industry which exports B products valued in excess of $l7OO million annually. The Institute B undertakes and promotes research and development on all matters B connected with meat, and meat by-products and their processing, and B is vitally concerned with the implementation of the results of this work B in the meat industry. Approximately 100 staff are employed, 44 of ■ whom are professionally qualified. B The continually changing environment within which the Institute is B required to fulfil its aims requires of the Director strong people B management, organisational, and administrative skills; commercial B objectivity and innovative capacity, in., addition to scientific and B engineering research leadership. It is essential that the appointee has: B • a good degree in a relevant field of research, either in science or B engineering B • a sound reputation in scholarship, and administration of research B within the food industry B • the personal impact to interact effectively with business, governmental B and industry leaders and members of the scientific community. B The incumbent Director is retiring after 10 years of leadership, and B would be available to assist in the induction of the appointee to the B post. The modern laboratories of the Institute are situated in Hamilton, B adjacent to the Ruakura Agricultural Research Centre of the Ministry B of Agriculture and Fisheries, and near to the campus of the University B of Waikato.
