They just ‘Gotta Dance’
Tap dancing is alive and kicking in Christ- , church and a revue, "Gotta Dance,” intends to “ prove it on Friday and Saturday. It will be performed by all the teachers and students of the Christchurch Tap Dancing Teachers’ Association at the Repertory Theatre. It will cover the story of tap dancing, starting at
the birth of tap among the black minstrels late last century. Famous tappers like Shirley Temple and Fred Astaire will also be covered and the show will finish with modem jazz tap, which is now popular in shows around the world. The music will include tap dancing greats, like “42nd Street,” "Lullaby of Broadway,” "Animal
Crackers” and “Singing in the Rain.” Teachers and pupils have been rehearsing for the show since the beginning of May. About 200 children learn tap dancing from 25 teachers in Christchurch. Tickets for the show can be booked at the Christchurch Town Hall.
