Maritime merger
PA Whangarei Two of New Zealand’s largest privately-owned maritime tourist operators, A. E. Fuller and Sons, Ltd, in the Bay of Islands, and the Blue Boats fleet, of Auckland, will merge. The asset and business merger will be effective from July 1, an Auckland merchant banker, Mr Hamish Allison, announced yesterday. The group will operate 27 vessels and a slipway in the tourist, commuter and towboat markets. The merger includes the Auckland-based Captain Cook Cruises and the
Kawau Island ferries. The Fuller company involves six ferry and cruise vessels and a slipway at Russell, and was purchased in equal shareholdings between four directors last year from the P and O Shipping Company. Blue Boats operates a com-
muter service between Auckland and Birkenhead and the Devonport naval base, while Captain Cook Cruises involves a fleet operating Auckland harbour cruises. In addition to the Kawau Island ferries, the Auckland group operates a fleet of tug and towboats and barges.
