Synod expresses abhorrence
PA Nelson The Nelson Anglican Diocesan Synod has expressed its "abhorrence” and concern about the recent tour of South Africa by a visiting New Zealand rugby team. But Synod delegates have sidestepped a move calling on the New Zealand Rugby Union not to consider members of the Cavalier squad for selection for the tests against France and Australia.
Several delegates said that it was not the Synod’s right to become involved in what one described as the internal politics of the Rugby Union.
