Cordless phones arrive
PA Auckland The Post Office says it intends to market cordless telephones this month. Mr D. G. Richards, the director of telecommunications marketing, said that the first shipment had arrived. Rental costs have yet to be set. The Post Office press officer, Mr Simon Read, said the telephone comprised a base station attached to the wall socket and a handset, with a receiver, microphone and key pad for punching numbers. It used a radio signal from the base station to the handset, inside a certain radius round the house and property. ’’You can take it into the garden or answer it while watching TV,” said Mr Read. ’’You do not actually have to get up and answer it. ”I’ve used them in England and they are absolutely superb.” ”Of course there is a catch. There is no way you can ignore them.”
