Donizetti works well
By
J. J. BOYLE
Donizetti had his wellperformed stablemate Noble Note for a companion in a sprint trial at Riccarton yesterday for the Oamaru Jockey Club’s feature race on Monday. John Bourne’s pair ran 800 m in 52.85, the last 600 m in 39.25. A good many others went faster, but Donizetti and Noble Note did their set piece on the chip track, while most of the others per-
formed on the No. 1 grass, where times can flatter even the moderates. Noble Note will reappear at the Ashburton meeting on a buildup towards the Winter Cup at the Grand National meeting. The Busuttin-trained Silver Shadow and La Foiler, candidates for maiden races at Oamaru, hurried over 800 m on the grass in 47.25, the last 600 m in 34.45.
Godunov and Busy Bee came up with 47s for their
800 m; Janse Lee recorded 48.25, Marwitzer and Yours Faithfully 50s; Masestri 50s; Famillion 51.65; Reingard 50.45; Rakau Tiffany and Open Bay 48s. Grant Davison will ride the promising Rakau Tiffany in the first Weston Maiden at Oamaru. 11l Afford ran 1200 m on the chip track in 1:24, the last 600 m in 40.15. Dancing Belle was one of the speedsters over 600 m on the No. 1 grass. She returned 355.
