Ulster body to go
NZPA-Reuter London The British Government has decided to dissolve Northern ' Ireland”s Parliament because it had failed to bring together the province’s divided Catholic and Protestant communities;
The decision, taken by a meeting of senior Ministers in the Cabinet’s overseas and defence committee, signals the collapse of the seventh initiative in 14 years to establish a political bridge between the communities to end the sectarian violence.
The Northern Ireland Assembly was set up in 1982 with the aim of returning responsibility for local government to the province in such a way that both communities could participate.
