British M.P.s call for sanctions
NZPA-Reuter London An all-party group of British Parliamentarians has urged the Prime Minister, Mrs Margaret Thatcher, to drop her opposition to the idea of economic sanctions against South Afri-
ca. The members from the Conservative, Labour, and Liberal parties, have just returned from a today visit to South Africa. Mrs Thatcher faces strong pressure from the Commonwealth to drop
her opposition to sanctions. A Conservative, Mr Alistair Burt, said the group felt that “phased implementation” of economic sanctions was necessary unless the South African Government introduced fundamental reforms
• within the next few months. But he made it clear , that he and his colleagues ! felt that immediate and drastic sanctions were not the answer, favouring their introduction in stages to encourage fe- : form.
