Prisoner recaptured

An escaper from Paparua Prison, Michael James Edwards, was recaptured in Christchurch late last evening. Edwards, one of two prisoners who went missing from a work party on June 3, was arrested at 11.25 p.m. He had flagged down a taxi on Bealey Avenue, but the driver became suspicious and pulled over near a police cordon, which was in the area after the burglary of a nearby pharmacy. The police chased Edwards through a number of properties, catching him at the corner of Bealey Avenue and Barbadoes Street. Three prison escapers are still at large in the Christchurch area.
