Discount coupons

Sir, —In the mail box this week was yet another round of supermarket coupons. I am willing to listen to both sides of the argument. Can these shops defend their use of coupons? Can they justify the rising price of products — toothpaste, baked beans, paper towels and cakes of chomlate, to name a few? One of the litest offers was a packet of

washing powder, priced at $2.79 but 3c off with a coupon. Is it worth the trouble of locating and handling? It is heartening to see the number of letters in our cause. Discount prices on goods without the time-consuming use of coupons.—Yours, etc., T. LOMBARD. June 5, 1986.
