Minister praises airmen

The Royal New Zealand Air Force has gained an international reputation for its work, says the Minister of Defence, Mr O’Flynn. Mr O’Flynn was speaking yesterday at a parade at Wigram R.N.Z.A.F. base held to mark the Queen’s Birthday. He told 300 airmen on parade that a modern Air Force could not be run unless personnel trusted one another. The R.N.Z.A.F. had obviously achieved that, he said.

“As a result, your work enjoys the confidence of the public — and not just of the public of New Zealand.” The recent rescue of a Russian seaman, and the transport of supplies to the Solomon Islands showed that the Air Force could be used for international aid, said Mr O’Flynn.
