Ikebana behind glass

Years of learning and experience culminate this week in the first ikebana exhibition to be held in the Robert McDougall Art Gallery. The Japanese flower arrangements are being done by Mr Fred Hollingworth as a part of Japan week. The arrangements are

in glass containers, something which Mr Hollingworth has never done before. People will be able to see the inside and outside of the arrangements. He learnt ikebana in Japan after becoming interested in the art form at the first Pan Pacific festival.

In ikebana what is left out is more important than what you put in, he says.

He hopes the exhibition will give ikebana some recognition as an art form.

The exhibition will be shown at the gallery until June 1.
