Fatal crash near Rapaki

A person died when a car left the Governor’s Bay Road, near Rapaki, about 11.30 p.m. yesterday. The car went down a 16 metre bank and was left suspended in a small tree. It could not be established early this morning whether the dead person was a man or a woman. Three people were in the car when the accident occurred.

One of the occupants of the car was uninjured. A woman was treated for hip and abdominal injuries at the scene by a doctor and members of the Lyttelton Ambulance Brigade.

The woman and the other uninjured occupant were later taken to Christchurch Hospital. Their names were not available from the police early this morning. Two ambulances from the Lyttelton brigade attended the accident with assistance from the Fire Service.
