Big win to Southland
PA Timaru Southland scored four tries to one to beat South Canterbury, 26-3, in a representative rugby match at Fraser Park, Timaru, yesterday. Southland was never seriously challenged but its performance against the lowly-ranked side doesn’t augur well for its national first division
championship campaign. The victors often struggled to overcome a tigerish South Canterbury forward pack but in the end their superior experience shone through. Two of Southland’s tries came from South Canterbury errors when the home team showed its shortcomings under pressure.
