Pieces of peace’ art on show in Chch
“A Piece of Art for Peace” exhibition opened at the Robert McDougall Art gallery on Thursday evening.
Christchurch is the first of many South Island centres to be host to the 82 “pieces of peace” by New Zealand artists.
They are mounted on composition panels, each piece with a protective, because the Southern Regional Arts Council intends to show the exhibi-
tion in other South Island districts over the next two years. The gallery’s director, Mr John Coley, said he was pleased with the response from artists. The gallery wrote to 120 artists and received 82 submissions. “There is a tremendous range of responses and style on show in the exhibition,” Mr Coley said. Well known artists who
contributed to the exhibition are Ralph Hotere, Pat Hanly, Victoria Edwards, Peter Siddell, Doris Lusk, Dick Frizzell, Barry Cleavin, G. T. Moffitt, and W. A. Sutton. All kinds of media are used, including photographs, collages, ink, pencil and acrylic. The “pieces of peace” will be on show at the gallery until the middle of June.
