Chch boy scout flown out
The Christchurch boy scout who broke his arm while tramping in the Lewis Pass on Thursday was flown out safely by helicopter yesterday. A Royal New Zealand Air Force Iroquois left Wigram at first light to pick up Robert Stephens, aged 15, of Cutts Road, Avonhead.
He had spent the night in the Nina Hut with six members of the ninemember party, after two others had walked out to get help. The injured boy was treated at Christchurch Hospital and sent home. He said yesterday that he had slipped on a tree root and fallen heavily on his arm.
“It was pretty painful at the time,” he said, but added that he was still just as keen on tramping. "It was just one of those things that happen.”
