‘Most sense’ from Wizard
Greymouth reporter The Wizard of Christchurch, who addressed the South Island Promotion Association recently, “talked about as much sense as anyone,” Cr Mick Sullivan told the Westland County Council in Hokitika this week. Cr Sullivan said that he was “not too enthused” with the conference, which leant heavily towards the Christchurch Hermitage Queenstown circuit. There was little
mention of the West Coast. One speaker at the conference had suggested that local authorities should be prepared to play a more active role in tourism promotion and treble their present payments to the association, he said. He had commented that there was no chance of getting that. “Counties in the South Island are under enough financial stress already,” he said.
