Tiffany Chin shows speed

Special correspondent Hastings Tiffany Chin turned on the speed in training at Hastings yesterday morning and could show up, wherever she starts this Saturday. Tiffany Chin is accepted for the Shannon Handicap at Foxton on Saturday but her trainer, Rose Durrant, will also pay up with the filly at Saturday’s Waikato meeting.

Durrant has a slight preference for Waikato but said the filly will need a soft track to show her best.

Fast work at Hastings was carried out on the plough, which was firm. The course proper was watered overnight, as there has still been no rain to speak of. Tiffany Chin sprinted 800 m on her own in 495, the last 600 m in 36.25. This was the fastest of the morning and the Taipan II filly was hitting out strongly at the finish. She went a good race for

seventh over 1200 m at Woodville last start.

Dom Domingo started quietly from the 800 m peg, speeding up to come home the last 600 m in 38.45. The big striding colt was a good second over 1200 m at Gisborne last start and is entered for the first division of the Trial Maiden at Foxton.

Hey Charlie was sent two 600 m sprints, running the first in 37.35, the second in 40.35. He also went a good race at Gisborne and is one of Dom Domingo’s rivals on Saturday.

The Davey Jonestrained pair, Distant Shores and Big Bread also impressed yesterday morning.

Distant Shores had a couple of lengths on Big Bread as they left the 600 m peg but Big Bread closed to be just half a length behind at the finish.

Distant Shores' time was 38.25, while Big Bread clocked 37.75. Both horses look to be

coming to hand nicely.

Jones has turned out three of the stable stars in Dare, Lucky Dip and Saab. They are likely to be spelling for a couple of months. Benedire finished ahead of Bart after 1000 m in 1:4.55, the last 600 m in 39.85. Benedire needs six scratchings to get a start in the Lynch Handicap. Make Peace, another on the ballot list at Foxton, worked with Nevada Prince over 800 m in 53.55, the last 600 m in 40.35. Both of these horses are looking for easy track conditions.

Brazen Fellow, preparing for the hurdle race at Foxton, schooled well over six battens. Idracab turned in one of the fastest 600 m times of the morning, clocking 36.95. Her connections have had a frustrating time trying to get a start for the horse. She was eliminated again at Foxton this week, the fifth time in a row.
