Show for microwave buyers
The biggest show devoted solely to microwave ovens and microwave cooking will be held at the Brevet club, on the corner of Russley Road and Memorial Avenue, Christchurch, this weekend. Organised by Microwave Specialists, the Microwave Expo will feature demonstrations and displays of almost every microwave oven available on the New Zealand market. More than 40 models will be on display, all of them plugged in for expo staff to demonstrate, or for visitors to try them-
selves. Three cooking demonstrations will run continuously all featuring different types of food and cooking. Mr Jon Mells, the managing director of Microwave Specialists, said: “There’s never been a show involving only microwaves held on such a scale anywhere else in New Zealand. The Microwave Expo is part of a major promotion by Microwave Specialists whereby over $12,500 worth of prizes will be given away to lucky customers over the next two weeks. More than 30 experts.
on microwaves, and microwave cooking, will be at the expo to advise visitors. A number of the advisers have come to Christchurch specially for the expo and all staff will be experienced microwave demonstrators, tutors, or sales people. “Those thinking of buying a microwave will get a good chance to compare all the brands and models, and gain valuable advice at the expo,” said Mr Mells. A wide range of microwave cookware and accessories will also be on display and available for sale at special prices.
Carlsson will also have an example of their new Eurokit kitchen on display and their staff will be available to talk about this new concept in kitchen design. One lucky customer who purchases a microwave at the expo, or from Mircowave Specialists before Mother’s Day, will win a Eurokit kitchen designed to their specifications, plus $2OOO of kitchen appliances. Three microwaves have also been offered as prizes, one of which will be won by a lucky visitor to the expo who does not need to purchase anything to claim the prize. According to Mr Mells, the expo is to help prospective buyers choose the microwave that best suits their needs. Buying a microwave is usually a joint family decision, but many families, particularly working couples, do not have time to shop together during
the week. The expo will give these people time to get all the information they need. "Because we stock all major brands and have no affiliations to any particular brand we try to match the right microwave to the particular needs of each person,” Mr Mells said. Microwave Specialists has been open in Christchurch for almost three years and operates the city’s only two specialised microwave retail shops. The company also operates the Microwave Cooking School, on the first floor of its High Street premises, and offers free lessons for beginners, and advanced courses for the more experienced. Customers also get a number of other free benefits including monthly newsletters, extended guarantees, 30-day exchange options, and discounts on accessories.
