Jayrem deal
Jayrem Records, the Wellington-based independent record company, has secured overseas licensing agreements for several New Zealand bands, including the Maori rock bands, Aotearoa and Dread, Beat and Blood. These agreements have resulted from Jayrem’s participation at the Midem International Recording and Music Trade fair held in Cannes. Aotearoa and Dread, Beat and Blood have secured distribution deals in the United Kingdom and their album releases will be the subject of a special promotion effort aimed at press and radio. Leading United States reggae label, RAS Records will be handling Dread, Beat and Blood’s recordings for the United States and Canada. A compilation album of New Zealand heavy metal bands called “At-
tack from Downunda” has been licensed by Jayrem for release in the United Kingdom and Europe. This album will feature mainly unreleased recordings from Strikemaster, Knightshade, Lionheart, Stonehenge, Confessor, Blitz, Tokyo, and Stormbringer. “The Coloured Gate” album recorded by Circus Block 4 of Wellington late in 1985 has been licensed for European release through WEA Records, Holland. It has not yet been released in New Zealand. Jayrem expects to finalise further overseas releases for Low Profile, Flesh D-Vice and The Spines during the next few weeks. Jayrem band, The Idles had their “Agroculture” album launched last month in the United Kingdom and initial sales results are reported to be excellent.
