Wool prices decline by 2.5 p.c.
Crossbred second shear and lambs’ wool prices fell by as much as 2.5 per cent at yesterday’s combined sale of Invercargill and Dunedin wool in Christchurch. The official report said that
compared with the Wellington sale on April 17, strong crossbred fleece, 35 to 37 microns, was in sellers’ favour. Good style, 50 to 100 mm or longer crossbred second shear was par to minus 2.5
per cent, while good to average style, 75 to 100 mm and longer was down 2 per cent and the remainder of the shears were in buyers’ favour. The 30 to 31 micron lambs wool was also down 2.5
per cent, the skirtings were firm, the clothing oddments were down by as much as 2.5 per cent and the locks and second pieces were up 7.5 per cent. The Wool Board bid on 2210 bales, or 16.7 per cent of the offering and had 900 bales, or 7.5 per cent, sold or passed to it. The competition was well spread, with a keen bidding tone. Eastern Europe and the Far East were the principal buyers supported by New Zealand mills. The market indicator was 452 c clean and 336 c greasy. The following is the official range of clean prices at auction. Medium crossbred, 35 micron: Good to 496. Strong crossbred, 37 micron: Good to 494, good to
average 470 to 474, poor 461 to 465. SECOND SHEAR Crossbred, 37 micron, 75125 mm: Good to super to 488, good to 469, good to average to 454. Crossbred, 37 micron, 50100 mm: Good to super to 472, good to 461, good to average to 449. LAMBS Crossbred, 31 micron: Good to 474, good to average to 453. NECKS Fine crossbred, 32 micron: Average to poor to 448. PIECES Crossbred, 35 micron: Poor to 398. BELLIES Medium crossbred, 35 micron: Poor to 391. LOCKS Crossbred, 35 micron: Average to poor to 319.
