Govt flood aid $30M

PA Wellington The Government expects to spend more than $3O million on the floodstricken residents of South Canterbury and North Otago. and industrial enterprises was between $lO and $ll million, the Under-Secre-tary of Finance, Mr de Cleene told Parliament yesterday. The estimate was based on claims lodged with Civil Defence. “Probably these damages are covered — as the farmers would not be covered — by the commercial enterprises’ own insurance companies,” he said.

Damage was still being assessed. The Government had approved expenditure of $2O million and another $10.5 million had been identified as necessary not yet approved by the Cabinet, he said.
