Man faces assault charges
A young woman, aged 16, was indecently assaulted by a man on her way home from Christchurch Hospital about 7 p.m. yesterday, the police said. . She managed to break free after hitting the man with her handbag and kicking him. He chased her the short distance to her home near Cranmer Square where he hid behind a tree after she ran inside, the police said. A man was arrested in Armagh Street. He will
appear in the District Court today charged with indecent assault and being unlawfully on premises. Detective Kieren Kortegast, of the C. 1.8., said that about 5.30 p.m. yesterday a girl, aged 14, had been followed and hassled outside the hospital. The incident was reported by another person and the police would like to speak to the girl. Either she or her parents are asked to get in touch with Detective Kortegast as soon as possible.
