$1 million race in Perth
Perth has joined the million dollar club in its efforts to attract the best horses from eastern states of Australia and New Zealand. The West Australian Turf Club will come up with a $1 million purse for The Australasian, a 1600 m weight-for-age race to be run on January 26 of next year. Racing officials are confident their promotion
will have strong support from the thousands of visitors to Perth for the America’s Cup early next year. Nine days before the $1 million event the name of the famous yachting event will be perpetuated in a $lOO,OOO weight-for-age race over 1800 m at Belmont Park. The Perth Cup, run on January 3, will be worth $300,000.
