Custom-made N.Z. liqueur for Japan

PATauranga Japanese drinkers will soon get a custom-made kiwifruit liqueur developed by a Tauranga company. Prestons kiwifruit winery will use this season’s fruit to produce a liqueur that is lighter and weaker in alcohol content than its present liqueur. A small amount of the new liqueur was produced last year on the advice of the Japanese distributor, said the marketing manager of Prestons, Mr Warren Preston.

“The distributor specified the alcoholic content and the taste, and requested a ceramic container shaped like a kiwifruit,” he said. “We have the liqueur nearly right last year. There’s just a bit of fine tuning to be done.” The company hopes to export the first consignment in August or September, and the liqueur will be available to New Zealand consumers at the same time.
