Cuts worry jobless

PA Auckland A rally of Auckland unemployed yesterday called for urgent tallcs with the Government about cuts in subsidised work schemes. The 250 people who gathered in central Auckland after a march decided to ask the Federation of Labour and the Auckland Umbrella Group on Unemployment to meet the Government to discuss the schemes. They also decided to

call on the Government to retain the schemes until there were .“jobs for all," and to oppose abolition of the four fully subsidised schemes. The chairman of the umbrella group, Dr Bruce Hucker, said scheme workers would face reduced incomes under the new training assistance programme. “They wil no longer receive award wages; nor will they have union protection,” he said.
