Playcentre open
The president and founder of the Linwood East Playcentre, Mrs Denise Jones, plays with her daughter, Sarah (centre), and two of her playmates, Elinor White (left), and Vicki Smith, all aged two, at the centre’s opening yesterday. The centre was the first to open in Christchurch for 10 years. There are now 59 playcentres In Canterbury. The centre’s opening
closed a publicity week held by the Canterbury Playcentre Association. The new centre was established after fundraising by parents in the area and uses the Linwood East creche house at the corner of Cranley Street and Cuba Street It is hoped another venue can be found next year. The centre Is open on Mondays and Fridays. Eighteen children, aged up to five, and their mothers were at the centre yesterday.
