Mayor’s allowance rises
The Mayor, Sir Hamish Hay, will get an increase of more than $BOOO in his yearly allowance. The allowance has increased from $31,616 to $40,000 a year after a determination by the Higher Salaries Commis-
sion and the Minister of Local Government, Dr Bassett. The Deputy Mayor, Cr Maurice Carter, has had his allowance more than doubled, to $BOOO a year, from April 1 this year.
Committee chairmen have gained a 33 per cent rise and will be paid $9500 a year. Councillors will be paid $6O for every meeting they attend, more than double what they received previously.
