Halley’s Comet
Halley’s Comet will be 75deg. above the horizon and 10 deg. from north at 10 p.m. today. (East is 90deg., south is 180 deg., and west is 270 deg.). When viewed from Christchurch at midnight, the comet will be 294 deg. from north and 64deg. above the horizon. At 2 a.m. it will be 268 deg. from north at an altitude of 42deg. and at 4 a.m. will be 250 deg. from north and 21deg. above the horizon. The comet will have dropped to lOdeg. above the horizon at 5.05 a.m., 240 deg. from north. Co-ordinates for Nelson, Ashburton, and Greymouth are similar and should be reached a few minutes later than those given for Christchurch.
