Chance for Shy Shari at Paeroa today
Special correspondent Auckland The consistent form shown by Shy Shari over middle distances should be justly rewarded in the first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Paeroa Racing Club’s meeting today. Shy Shari, part of the Dave and Paul O’Sullivan team, is by far the best performed acceptor in the Kevin Pascoe Ford Handicap, 2200 m, and she is sure to start a warm favourite. Last season she had seven starts and cleared maiden ranks in her second attempt. She did not take long to come to form again this season, being a runner-up in her second appearance and again two starts later. Shy Shari then went on to win a 1600 m race at Avondale on January 11 before being asked to try a middle distance for the first time, on her home course just over a month later. She handled the task admirably when finishing a head from the winner, Jumblelak, which later went on to run an unlucky third in the Ra Ora Great Northern Oaks at Ellerslie. Shy Shari has had four starts since then, all over middle distances. She ran second to Lady Tristana over 2200 m at Ellerslie on February 26, won over the same distance at Awapuni on March 15, finished second over 2000 m behind Threesome in the Diana at Ellerslie on March 29, then chased Garbo home over 2200 m at Te Aroha just over a week ago.
