Wellington reporter The Minister of Justice, Mr Geoffrey Palmer, has pressed the button to officially open the Stock Exchange’s longawaited national computer

system. The system, which has been working on a trial basis, links the four trading floors, giving members real-time trades and quotes from the

four regional exchanges. The benefits of the new system will not be fully felt until the computers are linked to brokers’ offices. Mr Palmer said that in addition to deregulation moves already announced the repeal of prescribed brokerage fees was being considered.
