Tribute paid to Queen
The Queen turns 60 today, and the historic occasion will be celebrated on Two with a one-hour documentary, “Queen Elizabeth — 60 Glorious Years,” screening at 7.30 p.m.
This tribute captures the filmed highlights of the Queen’s life to date and assesses her achievements in more than 30 years on the throne. It is not only about the official life of a monarch, but also a look at the personal side of a woman to whom her family has always been supremely important. Viewers are shown her quiet childhood; the glare of publicity surrounding the abdication of her uncle Edward VIII in 1936; her growing up as
the heir to the throne; and her accession following the premature death of her father in 1952.
Included is all the pomp and ceremony of- her reign, from her own coronation in 1953 to the investiture of her son, Charles, as the Prince of Wales, to the pageantry of her travels around the world.
“60 Glorious Years” is written and narrated by one of Britain’s most celebrated journalists, Sir Alastair Burnet, who says that, in future generations, “she will be venerated, a monarch of authority and experience such as Britain and the world have not seen since her great - great - grandmother, Queen Victoria.”
