Heathcote County population up 5.4%
The population of Heathcote County increased 5.4 per cent in the last five years. The Government Statistician, Mr, Steve Kuzmicich, has released more provisional figures from the 1986 census of population which show that Heathcote’s population has increased by 470 to 9248.
In the previous five years the increase was only 20 people, or 0.2 per cent.
Two other Canterbury regional figures released were those for Lyttelton Borough, which decreased
by 53 to 3131, and Mount Herbert County, , which increased by 94 to .1130,. ... .; ~ , Figures given . by the Statistics Department so far show that the trend of the previous census — a drift north by the population, is continuing. Balclutha Borough has shown a population decrease of 6.5 per cent
(290 people), to 4205 and the Green Island Borough a decrease of 5 per cent (347 . people) to 6552.
Mount Roskill has a population increase of 3.6 per cent (1223. people) to 34,800.
