Man calls police after robbery
PA Auckland The police converged on an Auckland caravan park yesterday after receiving a 111 call from a man who said he had robbed a store.
Earlier a man entered a Hillcrest store on Auckland’s North Shore and began taking groceries off shelves and placing them in a bag. As he went to leave the shop, he flashed open his shirt and the woman behind the counter saw a handgun on his waistband.
Inspector Derek Davison said the man
shop assistant he did not want to use the weapon. He then ran away. Soon after the police received the 111 call and traced it to a Northcote caravan park telephone box.
Police rushed to the camp to find a man locking himself in a caravan. He pointed what turned out to be an imitation firearm at the police. He was talked out of the van and arrested.
A man will appear in the District Court at Takapuna today charged with aggravated robbery.
