Local body election candidates

The Labour Party has named its candidates for ad hoc bodies in the Canterbury region, with the exception of the Christchurch Drainage Board, for which selections will be made in about two weeks.

A city councillor and Labour’s candidate for the mayoralty, Cr Alex Clark, heads the list as a candidate for the Christchurch Transport Board. Christchurch Transport Board: Mr Andrew Bennett, a C.T.B. bus driver; Mr Alex Clark; Mr Chris Constable, an insurance agent; Mr Ross Dowling, a secondary school teacher; Mr David Lawrence, a builder’s labourer and company director; Ms Linda Purves, a C.T.B. bus driver.

Canterbury Hospital Board: Ms Janet Aitken, a nurse and a present board member; Mr Steven Bartlett, a businessman; Mr David Close a teacher and Christchurch City councillor; Mrs Hinemoa Connor, a mother, also a candidate for the City Council; Mrs Ruby Fowler, retired; Mr Allan Hunter, retired; Mr Trevor Warr, a nurse, also a candidate of the City Council.

Lyttelton Harbour Board: Mr Murray Dobson, a management consultant and former member of the Harbour Board; Mr Bruce Dyer, a florist, also a candidate for the City Council; Mr Alistair James, a barrister and solicitor, a City councillor; Mr David Jones, a traffic manager; Ms Judy Waters, a sales consultant and a member of the Harbour Board.

North Canterbury Catchment Board: Ms Judy Waters, a sales consultant, and a member of the Harbour Board; Ms Angela Johnson, a shop owner, and wife of a candidate for the City Council, Mr Brian Johnson; Mr John Freeman, a former member of the Christchurch Drainage Board.
