Blazey ‘fiddles’

By

PETER O’HARA

NZPA staff correspondent London Britain’s "Sunday Time:?” newspaper suggested yesterday that violins should be issued to the New Zealand Rugby Union.

That way "Mr (Ces) Blazey and company can fiddle away while the old order of rugby and perhaps even the international board burn" the newspaper’s rugby correspondent, Stephen Jones, wrote.

The "Sunday Times” noted that Mr Blazey, chairman of the Rugby Union, had been reported as saying the council was too busy to discuss the fact that 30 All Blacks "supposedly under the

jurisdiction of the council are about to tour South Africa.”. It was a reference to Mr Blazey’s comments' several days ago when he said it was not practicable to call a meeting of his. council, even though it had a quorum in Britain. He also said he had not had an opportunity to receive a telegram from provincial unions in New Zealand calling for urgent action.

Mr Blazey later spoke informally with the councillors and said seven days notice would have been necessary for a proper meeting. Reports were circulating in Britain that about eight All Blacks would depart from London early this morning (N.Z. time)
