Shipping news More trading vessels enter port
A total of 350 trading vessels entered the Port of Lyttelton for the six months period to March 24, reported the Harbourmaster, Captain J. A. Barbour.
This represented a net register tonnage of 3,053,149 as compared with 347 trading vessels and a net register tonnage of 3,137,563 for the period October 1, 1984, to March 25 last year. Captain Barbour said that the two Lyttelton Harbour Board tugs Godley and Canterbury were busy during the month to March 24.
They assisted 66 vessels in, 44 vessels out, and helped shift 37.
Both tugs and the pilot cutter Wairangi were exercised at a fire drill during the period when monitors and hoses were checked.
All life saving equipment and fire fighting appliances had been maintained in good order and condition, said Captain Barbour.
