Bombing triggers march

PA Auckland A war of words between groups for and against the United States’ bombing of Libya highlighted a protest march by 600 people along Queen Street last evening. The protesters walked from Aotea Square to the United States ConsulateGeneral in Shortland Street where many blocked the road, sitting down chanting, “Mad Dog After speeches by the Auckland Trades Council president, Mr Bill Andersen, and representatives of union and political groups, attention switched to an opposing group which marched to the fringes of the gathering. The pro-America group consisted of six men carrying a “Stop Marxist Anti - Americanism” banner.
