No. 740030 LINDSAY MILLER CLINIC, LAUNCESTON A Psychiatrist is sought to take charge of and develop the Commission’s Psychiatrist Services in Launceston and surrounding area. This is a challenging and interesting position for a person who has drive and enthusiasm and likes working in a community setting with the use and control of a psychiatric admission ward attached to a general hospital. SALARY: $61,470 per annum. In addition generous on-call/call back payments apply for approved rostered out-of-hours duty. Launceston is a city of some 60,000, with a further 50,000 in the surrounding rural area. The clinic is a ward of the well-equipped general hospital. At present there are only 16 beds but a new 26bed ward is being planned to replace it. The establishment includes two other psychiatrists, two psychologists, four social workers and community nurses. The countryside adjacent to the city is picturesque and gives an opportunity for a professional to develop rural interests whilst having all the advantages of city facilities, including excellent schools. DUTIES: The Senior Psychiatrist, as head of service, will be responsible to the commission for provision of psychiatric services in the northern region of the state. With the concurrence of the Board of Management of the Launceston General Hospital, the Psychiatrist would undertake liaison and consultation within the hospital. Consultative services are also provided to other government and voluntary welfare agencies. QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified Medical Practitioner, registrable in Tasmania, with at least nine years post-graduate experience in medicine and be a Member/Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, or hold an equivalent qualification. PRIVATE PRACTICE: Limited right of private practice would be considered by the Commission. RELOCATION EXPENSES: Consideration will be given to the reimbursement of economy class air fares for the appointee and dependants, together with financial assistance for the removal of personal effects up to a maximum of $4500.
