N.Z. cricket defeat
NZPA-Reuter Sharjah, United Arab Emirates New Zealand, after being sent in to bat by Pakistan, was beaten by 10 wickets in the semi-final of the Australasia Cup cricket tournament at Sharjah yesterday. The New Zealand batsmen crumbled before a sustained Pakistani attack to be all out for 64. Wasim Akram started the Kiwis’ downfall with three wickets in his opening spell of six overs before Abdul Qadir’s deadly spin reduced the New Zealanders to 32 for seven. In one magical over, he clean bowled Bruce Blair, Tony Blain and John Bracewell to finish with top bowling honours — four wickets for just nine runs. NEW ZEALAND K.
