Murray McPhie fined

PA Wellington The Christchurch trainer, Murray McPhie, was fined a total of $3OO and ordered to pay costs to the Racing Conference of $4OO after an inquiry yesterday into charges relating to the horse Gunyah Earl.

A sub-committee of the conference’s executive committee heard McPhie admit two charges preferred by racecourse inspector R. D. Williams. It was alleged Mr McPhie had failed to register with the conference

the change of ownership which had occurred over Gunyah Earl and had subsequently entered and started the horse on 12 occasions before such change of ownership was ultimately registered. It was further alleged that as the horse was raced in partnership, a joint interest was required to be also registered with the conference.

The committee imposed a fine of $lOO for the failure to register the change of ownership, and imposed a further fine of $2OO for the failure to

register the joint interest. It also awarded costs to the conference of $4OO to go towards the costs and expenses incidental to the hearing.

Mr McPhie applied for exemption from the disqualification of the horse in the races in which it had won stake money. The committee having taken into account the special circumstances which applied in this case granted that exemption and, therefore, the horse was not disqualified from any races.
