May and Baker grows
May and Baker New Zealand, Ltd, has acquired Amalgamated Chemicals, Ltd, (ACL), a Sydney-based, wholly owned subsidiary of Industrial Equity, Ltd, through May and Baker Australia, Pty, Ltd. The principal business conducted by ACL is the manufacture and distribution of a range of agricultural chemicals and a small number of animal health products. It has a national distribution and service capability, and formulation facilities in Brisbane and Perth.
The acquisition will make May and Baker one of the four leading agro-chemicals businesses in Australia by the
end of the decade, and will significantly strengthen May and Baker’s agro-chemicals business in the whole of Australasia and the Pacific Islands. Mr Pieter Van Blommestein, May and Baker New Zealand, agro-chemicals divisional manager, said: “With the increasing importance of CER to trans-Tasman trading this latest acquisition is likely to have significant benefits for both the New Zealand company and for New Zealand agriculture as it will add to the resources we are able to put behind the development of new crop protection products for the New Zealand farming community.”
