Vote today by woollen workers
Canterbury woollen workers will meet today to vote on whether to return to work after striking over the breakdown of their award talks. About 150 workers in Christchurch and 155 in Timaru went on strike last Thursday after talks broke down. The Woollen Workers’ Union is seeking a 22 per cent wage increase and the employers offered 15.7 per cent. The secretary of the union’s Canterbury-West-land branch, Mr Andy Lea, said a further offer by the employers would be put to the vote at today’s meetings.
