Blind victim of hit-run dies
PA Auckland Gary Spicer, the blind victim of a hit-and-run driver, died in Auckland Hospital last evening. His parents, lan and Margaret Spicer, of Christchurch, were at the bedside of their eldest son, aged 25, when he died. “It has hit them pretty hard,” said a relative who
was with them. “I think they were starting to build up hope that he would recover.” A car struck the blind man near Middlemore Hospital about 10 p.m. on Saturday. The driver has since given himself up to the police. The relative said Mr and Mrs Spicer would take their son’s body to Christchurch for burial.
