Todd decides to stay with Linwood
Brent Todd, the young New Zealand rugby league forward, has decided to stay in Canterbury this season. Todd, a specialist prop, last evening turned down the chance for a lucrative contract with the CityNewton club in Auckland.
“I seriously thought about it and decided not to take the offer up,” Todd said.
He had until last night to make a decision and he stuck with it even when City-Newton increased the offer.
“It’s not the money I’m worried about; it’s the career,” Todd said. He did not think that playing football in Auck-
land would improve his game. “It is more physical down here.”
Todd, aged 21, said that he would stay with Linwood for another year and was eager to help Canterbury hold on to the Rugby League Cup. He is also hopeful of retaining his place in the Kiwis team for the tour of Australia in July. Todd, who has also represented New Zealand in water polo, made his mark in rugby league last year when he was sent to Great Britain as a late replacement for the Kiwi tour. -
He made his full international debut in the second test against France.
