‘Mr Wrong’ doing all right
New Zealand’s latest successful thriller, “Mr Wrong,” starts at the Academy Cinema tomorrow.
Gaylene Preston’s com-edy-thriller about a young woman who buys a haunted car is well into its seventeenth week in Auckland and is completing a three-week return season in Wellington. Critics and audiences alike have acclaimed the film. The “Listener” described it as: “thought-pro-voking, exhilarating and great fun.” The “New Zealand Herald” found it
“a little ripper of a film,” and the "Evening Post” in Wellington said "it should not be missed.” Overseas audiences too will view the film in 1986. Since “Mr Wrong” first screened at Cannes, theatrical sales have been concluded for the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Scandinavia, Germany, Spain and India. “Mr Wrong” will open in Los Angeles next month under the title “Dark of the Night.” "The Country Girls” is still packing them in, so will move to the Mid-City
for a further week, dislodging “Amadeus” out to the Hollywood at Sumner. “Battle Rage,” starring Chuck Norris, starts at the Carlton today. The Frankenstein legend, plundered and parodied already, is given a trendy twist in “The Bride,” which opens at the Avon tomorrow. Sting, the rock star-ac-tor, plays the bad Baron. Having given life to a grotesque creature, he attempts to form a perfect female companion (Jennifer Beals) for it.
