Te Maori in Chicago

PA Wellington The Minister of Maori Affairs, Mr Wetere, will lead the New Zealand delegation to Te Maori art exhibition when it opens at the Field Museum of National History in' Chicago on March 6. The delegation will comprise 20 kaumatua (elders), 14 rangatahi (youth) from Maori boarding schools, 10 cultural performers, and four artists, representing all the Maori tribes. Chicago will be the

final showing of Te Maori in the United States. It has also been on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the St Louis Art Museum and the M. H. de Young Memorial Museum of Fine Arts in San Francisco. The North American tour began in September 1984 and will end in Chicago in June. The 174 artefacts range in date from 1000 A.D. to the late nineteenth century.
