Maxwell rescues Aust.
NZPA-AAP Brisbane An unbeaten 84 by the New South Wales middleorder batsman, Neil Maxwell, helped Australia to a respectable first day total of 290 for seven in the deciding third Westpac youth test against New Zealand at the Brisbane Cricket Ground yesterday. Australia had struggled to 67 for three at lunch,
but Maxwell’s unbeaten contribution and a defiant 65 by the Tasmanian, Alister de Winter, steered them to a healthy score at stumps. The New Zealand captain, David Hartshorn, turned in an inspiring bowling performance, capturing four for 66 off 24 overs, including all four wickets to fall after lunch.
