Minister receives report of sinking

The preliminary report on the sinking of the Soviet liner Mikhail Lermontov has been delivered to the Minister of Transport, Mr Prebble. He said yesterday that he had not yet had the opportunity to read it and that it was comprehensive and would require careful study.
Mr Prebble said he would not release the report until he had decided if a formal inquiry was necessary, a decision required of him under the Shipping and Seamen Act. He could give no indication of when the report would be released but said he was treating the matter as urgent.
