Santmyer dies
NZPA-Reuter Xenia, Ohio Helen Hooven Santmyer, who at 88 became a bestselling author with her book, "... And Ladies of the Club,” about life in small-town America, has died of emphysema, aged 90." -
Santmyer, an educator and librarian, died in a nursing , home where she had lived for the last 10 years. Her novel, which took her many years to write and was more than 1100 pages long, topped the best-seller lists in 1984. Santmyer, who never married, named the book for . members of a local women’s literary club who comprise the centre of a town’s cultural and Political life.
